Justin WH Wong
Justin Wong co-founded TrueXR after 10 years of experience in the film industry. With a passion for storytelling, Justin quickly identified VR and AR as being the future of the industry.
His career began in Malaysia at the SAE institute, the region’s premier media technology university. Always looking to expand his knowledge, Justin pursued further filming courses in the United States. Regardless of his formal instruction, Justin credits months spent filming wildlife in Africa as the experience that perfected his video storytelling.
Justin Wong co-founded SCM Asia which. The company worked with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to produce “Setiu Wetlands: Nature’s jewel.” A persuasive documentary that was instrumental in raising awareness for Malaysia’s protected areas. Justin has won numerous awards one of which is project entitled “My Carbon Footprint”. He was awarded winner of the Green Awards 2012, followed by Best Malaysian Short Film Awards, in Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) 2013. The KLEFF is one of the first and biggest environmental film festivals in Malaysia, that has reached out to approximately 88,000 Malaysians through its film screenings at selected venues all over the Peninsula. His recent work – documentary series title Discovering Langkawi with Irshad Mobarak: Passages Through Time, was selected to finals to compete in VAASA Wildlife Film Festival in Findland on September 2018.
Justin has always been amazed by the potential video has to persuade, teach, and raise awareness. His passion for visual storytelling has always focused on fascinating people by taking them to distant, exotic places. He founded TrueXR after realizing VR and AR’s unparalleled potential to do what he already did: transport an audience and make them lost in the detail of a new location.
Justin was inspired to pursue filmmaking because of the incredible way it could take an audience somewhere they could never imagine. He sees AR and VR as the revolutionary new mediums that can take visual storytelling to incredible heights and have incredible artistic and commercial uses. Justin believes that whether it is showcasing a product, introducing a new residential building, or raising awareness for a new cause, VR and AR have immense persuasive power.
